This post is for my amazing Boss, Dr. Douglas Schulz. Who this Christmas spoiled us rotten.I decided this year that instead of the material things as a gift, I would dig deep into my huge warm heart and think outside the box. He is like my father in the sense that whatever he wants throughout the year he buys it, making it very difficult for others to buy for him at Holidays and Birthdays. In the beginning of December my Mom brought Doctor a loaf of homemade banana bread and then later a cookie tray. Well on the visit for the bread Dr. went on and on about his late Mothers Christmas baking and mainly her cut out cookies. Holding onto that moment in my mind I decided to use it for part of my gift to him this year. So the planning began...You have never met Vic Schulz but this man is 87 years old and a pure joy when he is around. He is a good looking, smooth talking older man, the grandfather than any grand kid would want. Above all he is Doctor's Father. He still lives in Iowa where Doc grew up. I phoned his dad a week or so ago and asked him if there was any way that he could mail me the recipes of Doc's mothers Christmas cookies. Not expecting a yes or even the originals, to my surprise Dad, Vic said yes and they came in the mail yesterday with a sweet card that he wrote in as well. I bought a tin Christmas container and placed the recipes, card, and original envelope they came in for Doc to keep and cherish for years to come. I then last minute scrounged for cookie cutters and other baking necessities such as a mixing bowl, rolling pin, oven mitt, towels, and spatulas. I told Doc that Christmas is about family and most of all about Magic. I hope he sees the true magic this year and I hope his Mom is smiling from the heavens above. Thank you Vic I could not have done it without your effort and Thank you Doc I thoroughly enjoy listening to your stories/memories of when you were a child.
